Day 1 of IGCLA consists solely of numerous workshops tailored to ensure hands-on experience for the delegates in various aspects. Workshops included the likes of Warzone medicine conducted by MSF, EM Simulation, Science Communication, Murder Mystery Dinner etc.
EM Simulation

The Emergency Medicine Simulation workshop was conducted by Tempus Pretioso, emergency medicine club of KMC Manipal as a part of IGCLA 2019. The workshop focused on teams which had to handle simulations of a snake bite and a heart attack. This engaged the team members to showcase their teamwork along with critical thinking and procedural skills. The delegates also participated in a Med-Relay which involved a lot of coordination and applying knowledge & deduction skills to various cases. Dr Vimal and Dr Prithvishree were the revered faculty advisors for the event. The workshop was very informative and very entertaining for all the delegates.
WOUND CARE WORKSHOP

Over sixty surgeons in-the-making and curious medicos engaged in an interactive wound care workshop in Interact. Cutting Edge, the surgical student society of KMC, taught participants the theory of wound healing and suturing techniques.

Blood! Death! And a mastermind behind the scenes made this event the highlight of the first day of IGCLA. Inspired by the series of ‘Saw’, the participants struggled to solve mind boggling cases in order to win puzzle pieces that would lead them to their final destination. Jigsaw, a nerve racking and nail biting session was a success.
Science Communication, Surgical Stapling and War-zone Medicine

In an effort to help professionals realise the need to better convey their studies and discoveries to their audience, be it specialists or the general public, Dr. Mrininjay Sharma held a workshop on science communication. The hope was to ensure that the correct information gets across to people in an appealing manner and to avoid unintentional discrepancies.
The workshop in surgical stapling took place to show the participants the advancements in sealing incisions and injuries and have an insight into surgical practices.
Dr. Murtaza and Dr. William Wilson conducted a workshop in war-zone medicine by describing their experiences while serving in the MSF (Medicins Sans Frontiers), aka Doctors Without Borders and disaster management teams in India respectively. It provided an insight into the responsibilities and various obstacles they were faced with on their various trips.
Murder Mystery Dinner

Justitia, the Forensic Club of KMC Manipal, featured its thrilling workshop, Murder Mystery Dinner on September 19, for the delegates of IGCLA at TMA Pai Hall 1. The party which began with high spirits and jolly souls ends in a murder. The mystery unfolds as the guests act out their parts, reveal information and set out to uncover the killer using clues from Forensic science.
